Hurricane Katrina - The aftermath
I have to say that ever since this tragedy began I have been transfixed by the news. Living in Tampa Bay, with a hurricane spinning on the other coast as I write this, I feel for these people.
I may be callous but it is somewhat troubling that they are just pumping raw sewage into Lake Ponchatrain. Since the city is under mandatory evacuation there isn't a huge rush to drain it so why not treat the water in some way before killing that entire lake and then have to deal with that clean up. I don't get it. It is the second largest salt-water lake in the US. It is a unique habitat that is being destroyed.
And since this is a blog where we vent it amazes me how the Bush administration can have such a horrible failure as what the entire world witnessed and they send out their spin teams to make it sound like nothing went wrong. "It is all going as planned." They even had the balls to say that they were ahead of schedule!
You mean to tell me that they could not have redirected one helicopter to drop water and MREs to the people at the Super Dome and the Convention Center? Come on! You mean to tell me that News reporters could be there broadcasting this tragedy on CNN, FOX and MSNBC 24 hours a day and the head of FEMA finds out 3 days into it that all these people are in trouble? They need to get rid of any intelligence or recon teams they have and just use their TVs and watch the news.
