The New Year - To Sirius or not to Sirius. Please dry up the sponge.
As we approach on the New Year there is a big noise being made about Howard Stern moving to satellite radio. To us in the Tampa Bay area there is a more direct connection because we had a morning radio DJ that was a Howard clone, Bubba the Love Sponge.
He was fired for a myriad of things but the straw that broke the camels back was that they slaughtered a boar live on the air. Yeah, that is radio entertainment at its finest. I’d be so proud.
The gist of his show is to degrade everyone and everything. He calls women “bitches” and “whores” and has all kinds of humor that is designed to titillate and disgust. The thing he does that ticks me off the most is that he cuts people off on the phone every time they start to get the better of him. He can’t cut me off here and there are tens of thousands of you reading this all over the world. Want to read what a jerk he is in his life away from radio? Check this.
Oh, and he has a staff of intellectual dwarfs that work for him who are such ass kissers it is almost embarrassing. I had the misfortune of hooking up with them at Live Stock 13 a few years ago and they were the biggest bunch of jerks on the planet. Talk about thinking your crap dosen't stink; it is laughable. They acted so superior to every one else there but as soon as Bubba bellowed they would al jump like bitches.
He was on TV the other day bragging that he lost 80 lbs. Well, only 80 more to go. He still has a fat double chin and is built like a pig, just a smaller pig. Trying to put on a new image. Once a fat pig always a fat pig.
So the point to all of this is; are people going to spend $50 on a radio and $155 a year to listen to what we used to hear for free? You might be thinking that they are going to go a lot further now because there are no restrictions on satellite radio. Well they really can’t. They were having women “simulate” sex on the radio and although I was never there I’d bet it wasn’t acting. They had contests where virgins lost their virginity I mean really, what else is there? If they go any further they will be so over the line that terrestrial radio won’t take them back after this if it flops. Neither Howard Stern or Bubba will completely shut the door on it because they have such extravagant lifestyles they have to continue to earn to maintain it.
So is it worth it? I used to sell Sirius Satellite radio and listened to it at work all the time. It is just like cable TV. There are 120 stations but how many pertain to YOU. Of the 120 you might listen to 2 or 3 and if you’re into sports one more. On the other hand if it is music you want a lot of people are buying iPods or MP3 players. The $200 you spend on that could get you 200 songs. At an average of 3 minutes a song that is 10 hours of music. And not just any music but your favorite music. AND YOU OWN IT. Once you decide to discontinue the subscription your music is gone and you have a $50 paper weight.
