Major media is finally catching up to NLTV.

Hey all, sitting here getting some work done and ABC is running a story now on the disposal of computers. The important part they are covering is the HARD DRIVES that are left in them. They took some drives out of computers in a dump and looked at the contents. There was all kinds of personal information on the drives. Enough to steal identies.

Here is what they didn't cover -
Even if you delete all the information off the drive it can still be retrieved. How about this, even if you format the drive I can still get the information off it. Think I'm kidding? This is important stuff, so much so that I built a fundraising campaign based on it for the charity we are associated with Second Chance http://secondchancelifeskills.org selling data recovery and eradication software. Go there and check it out.

It is what is known as a compilation disk. In short it is a bunch of different software from different vendors all on one disk. The idea behind it is that it is all the critical software that you need all in one shot. Recovery, eradication, firewall and on and on.

OK, now that the sales pitch is over here is why it is important. Ever lose your information off your computer? The recovery software can get it back as long as the hard drive isn't dead. Even if it is on the C drive and the computer won't boot. Yeah, it is that badass.

How about if you use your computer for your business and now you are going to get rid of it? If you pass it on without taking care of the hard drive someone can get it and get everything off of it that was ever on it. Even if you format the hard drive. I'm not kidding. Bookkeeping - the works.

There is data eradication software that has to run on the drive and write to every single space on the drive so it over writes the information on it. To make it so the data is irretrievable you need to do that at least 8 times. That takes more than a DAY for a large drive and I know you are not doing it. That or just never pass on the hard drive and smash the hell out of it so it is destroyed physically.

If you have ever passed on a computer and not done that it is possible for someone to get your info even today if the drive is still in existence and working. All they have to do is hook it up and run the recovery software on it and you're done.

Just like the story I was working on years ago about kids and internet predators NBC did a story on that just about a month ago. Good thing to see they are catching up.

Tell you what, if anyone buys the software from SCLS because of this let me know and I'll get you a 10% discount.

Frank from NLTV
